The Pedyalympics is a long-standing annual project of the Rotary Club of Makati Dasmariñas (RCMD), dedicated to promoting inclusivity, physical activity, and joy for children with special needs. Over the years, this heartwarming event has become a cherished tradition, consistently led with dedication and compassion by our ever-active RCMD Past President Dr. Perry Noble, in partnership with Innerwheel Club, our umbrella organization God’s Special Children and the ever-supportive team from PedyaKamp.
This year’s celebration, held on March 30, 2025, was made even more special with the first-ever participation of the Interact Club of Makati Science High School. A total of six Interactors joined the event as volunteers, bringing fresh enthusiasm, empathy, and energy to this legacy project.
Many Rotarians of RCMD were present, led by our Incumbent President Joan Cañete, showing their unwavering support. We were also joined by the officers and members of RCMD, along with the vibrant and committed 14 Rotaractors, the Rotaract Club of Arellano University and Rotaract Club of Changebringers, from our youth arm. Their presence added to the sense of unity, purpose, and community spirit that defines this annual celebration.
Below is a heartfelt reflection shared by Interact President Kertzin Matias, capturing the memorable day from the youth’s perspective:
“A total of six members from the Makati Science High School Interact Club volunteered for the Pedyalympics, an event aimed at promoting sportsmanship, collaboration, and outdoor fun activities with children with special needs. With a floral and outdoor-themed celebration, the event fostered inclusivity and joy among all participants.
The morning began with volunteers from PedyaKamp, Rotary, and the MSHS Interact Club dividing into six groups, each creating their own cheer and chants to promote camaraderie and teamwork. Each volunteer was assigned a child to assist throughout the day. The program officially started with the singing of the National Anthem, a prayer, and a Zumba session led by an instructor, energizing all participants. Afterward, all six groups proudly presented their cheers while holding their banners.
Following the opening ceremony, the parade commenced as all groups moved from the court to the open area where the games would take place. The passing of the torch was then held, with representatives from each group joining the event sponsors in the symbolic activity. After the oath of sportsmanship was recited, the games officially began. The activities were divided into six sections, ensuring that each group had the chance to visit all game stations.
After the games, participants returned to the court, where volunteers helped their assigned children enjoy their meals and receive their loot bags. Each group was also recognized with an award for their enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the Pedialympics. The event concluded with a fun performance featuring Jollibee, followed by a heartfelt thank-you to the generous sponsors.”
The 2025 Pedialympics was a powerful reminder of the magic that happens when generations unite in service. From the laughter of children and the cheers of volunteers to the heartfelt presence of our members and partners, the day was filled with moments that uplifted and inspired.
Together, let’s continue building a world where every child feels included, valued, and loved.
