In observance of World Oral Health Month "A Happy Mouth is a Happy Mind", the Philippine Dental Association Aklan chapter, Rotary Club of Metro Kalibo (D3850), and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Aklan joined forces for a dental mission on March 28, 2025, to serve the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL).
The dental mission had approximately 25 volunteers. Here's a breakdown of the recipients who received FREE dental services:
Oral Prophylaxis: 50 males and 5 females
Total Restoration: 15 males and 5 females
Tooth Extraction: 30 females and 3 males
Dentures: 3 PDLs
The mission highlighted the pressing need for dental care among the PDL population, as our local dentist reported that almost 90% suffer from gum disease due to limited access to dental services.
PDA Aklan, led by President Chastie also provided hygiene kits, while our club led by Pres. Jess, donated medicines and also a dozen chairs for the women's section's livelihood program.
This mission marked the first use of the two dental equipment donated last November by our international sister clubs, Rotary Clubs of Jefferson and Changemakers (D6250), Wisconsin, USA. It's remarkable to see the curing lights equipment, donated by the Rotary Club of Wheatridge, Colorado, USA, still functioning effectively after nearly a decade.
This collaboration with PDA Aklan and BJMP, respond to Rotary International's focus on sanitation and hygiene, disease prevention and treatment and peacebuilding. We are happy to serve!
