Empowering the Aklanon Bukidnon community of Libacao through free legal assistance

The Aklanon Bukidnon are Indigenous Peoples (IPs) are among the 9 million Filipinos (PSA, 2022) who are not registered in the Civil Registry, leaving them unseen by the law without a birth certificate. This situation hinders their access to education, healthcare, and other social services. Registering their birth can unlock various opportunities for them.



RLB & Associates Law, in partnership with 1st Aklan Provincial Mobile Force Company, LGU Libacao, IBP Aklan Chapter, Rotary Club of Metro Kalibo, and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Aklan Office, held its 5th caravan of Project ALAC at Brgy. Rosal, Libacao, Aklan on March 26, 2024.


With the theme “Karapatan sa Lipunan ng mga Katutubo”, Project ALAC 4.1 aims to empower the Aklanon Bukidnon community of Libacao, Aklan by providing free legal seminar on Indigenous Peoples’ Rights, Importance and Benefits of Birth Registration, and Livelihood programs tailored for their community.

Around 80 participants, including barangay council members, took part in an event providing free legal advice, birth registration consultations, notarial services, and DTI’s Negosyo Center services to aid the livelihood projects of the Aklanon Bukidnon community. Additionally, Psychosocial services were available, along with an information campaign highlighting Project ALAC programs such as Knowing Your Rights and the Safe Space Act. Participants also learned about opportunities provided by the Department of Trade and Industry.

Peace is achieved through sustainable investments in economic development, institutions, and societal attitudes that nurture a peaceful environment. The Rotary Club of Metro Kalibo champions peace.
