Empowering Lives: The Marinduqueño Fisherfolk Empowerment Program

On March 25, 2025, the Rotary Club of Luntiang Maynila Prime set sail on a transformative journey aimed at upliftment and economic development—one that promises to make waves in the lives of the Marinduqueño fisherfolk. As the sun began to set over Manila, our team departed the bustling port at 4:50 PM, filled with excitement and purpose. Our destination? The serene shores of Marinduque, where our flagship project, "Ang Marinduqueño Fisherfolk Empowerment Program," was set to unfold.

The Voyage to Change

Our journey commenced aboard a roll-on-roll-off ship from Dalahican Port at 8 PM. It was a calm evening as we charted our course across the waves, and by 11:30 PM, we arrived at Balanacan Port. After a brief transit, we reached the Regis Residence in Malibago, Torrejos, Marinduque just past midnight. Tired yet exhilarated, we prepared for the impactful days ahead.

A Vision Takes Shape

The sunrise on March 26, 2025, welcomed us with a sense of resolve. In collaboration with Past President Arnil Señoron and Club President Elberto Regis, we conducted an orientation for the Marinduqueño fisherfolk in Brgy Lipata, Buenavista. This gathering was a celebration of community spirit and shared ambition as we formally organized the Rotary Community Corps of Marinduqueño Fisherfolk, an essential component of our flagship program.

The orientation aimed to equip the fisherfolk with essential knowledge, skills, and resources necessary for sustainable fishing practices and community development. Together, we discussed how this initiative would not only enhance their fishing practices but also improve their livelihoods and support their families.

Moments of Impact

As the orientation concluded, the air was filled with excitement as Benjilito Cha and Almar Marciano led the formal signing of membership. It was a moment that underscored unity and commitment to a common goal. Shortly after, the program highlighted the turnover of vital resources aimed at ensuring the safety and operational capacity of our newly organized fisherfolk community.

CP Elberto Regis presented ten life jackets, two life buoy rings, and, perhaps most importantly, two small boats along with one larger fishing vessel and a fish net. These resources represent not just tangible support but also symbolize our commitment to empower the fisherfolk of Marinduque.

A Mission Made Possible

This remarkable initiative was primarily made feasible through the tireless efforts of CP Elberto Regis and the generous support of the Regis Foundation. Their vision in addressing the needs of the fishing community reflects the Rotary's area of focus on Community Economic Development, aiming to build stronger, self-sufficient communities.

As the afternoon sun began to fade, we prepared for our return journey, departing back to Manila at 4:30 PM. Our hearts were full, knowing that we had ignited a spark of hope and facilitated a path toward self-sufficiency for the Marinduqueño fisherfolk.

Looking Ahead

As we reflect on this pivotal day, we are reminded that change is not instantaneous; it is a journey paved with dedication, collaboration, and action. "Ang Marinduqueño Fisherfolk Empowerment Program" is more than a project; it is a commitment to uplifting lives, preserving marine resources, and fostering community resilience.

The Rotary Club of Luntiang Maynila Prime looks forward to the positive impacts that will ripple through the Marinduqueño community as we continue our voyage together. We invite you all to join us in this mission, as we strive to create a brighter future for our fisherfolk and enhance the economic stability of their community. Together, we can make a difference—one life, one community at a time.
