Collaborative Commitment: DENR Region IV-A, Rotary Clubs, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Partner for Marikina Watershed Reforestation Project





The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was formally executed on June 24, 2024, at the DENR Region IV-A (CALABARZON) Office located in the DENR Building, Mayapa Main Road, Calamba City, Laguna. This agreement was established between the Department of Environment & Natural Resources (DENR), specifically through its Region IV-A office, and six Rotary Clubs under District 3830. The MOA centers around the joint initiative known as the Marikina Watershed Reforestation & Livelihood Project II, aligning with DENR's comprehensive framework for upland development aimed at sustainable forest management under the campaign "TAYO ANG KALIKASAN”.


In addition to DENR Regional Executive Director Nilo Tamoria (Region IV-A), the MOA signing ceremony was attended by District 3830 Governor Jay Tambunting, PDG Dr. Mildred Vitangcol, and PDG Joji Tan as the project convenor. Also present were representatives from DZRH and the United Architects of the Philippines College of Fellows.


The parties involved in this significant partnership include:

Latter-day Saint Charities-Philippines, Inc., represented by Jairus C. Perez, Country Director, and Elder Emil Orencia.

Philippine Bamboo Foundation Inc., represented by Edgardo Manda, Executive Director.

Rotary Club of Makati F. Zobel, represented by Alexander Lopez, President.

Rotary Club of Makati, represented by Senen L. Matoto, President.

Rotary Club of Dasmarinas, represented by Josierina Sarmiento Veloso, President.

Rotary Club of Makati Central, represented by Chris G. Chiong, President.

Rotary Club of Buendia, represented by F. John Dela Cruz, President.

Rotary Club of Las Pinas, represented by Rafael Hernandez, President.


The signing ceremony was witnessed by DENR Regional Executive Director Nilo Tamoria (Region IV-A), Christopherson B. Domingo, Vice-Chairman Deogracias Victor B. Savellano, and Rene E. Madarang, Executive Director of PBIDC.


Under the terms of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), the participating entities, including Latter-day Saint Charities-Philippines, Inc., Philippine Bamboo Foundation Inc., and several Rotary Clubs such as Makati F. Zobel, Makati, Dasmarinas, Makati Central, Buendia, and Las Pinas, have pledged their support. Their collective initiative involves the supply and cultivation of bamboo propagules, with plans to plant and nurture 4,100 bamboo plants across a designated 20-hectare site identified by DENR-PENRO.


This concerted effort underscores a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and community empowerment, aiming to enhance the ecological resilience of the Marikina Watershed while fostering sustainable development opportunities for local communities.
