In a concerted effort to bridge health disparities in underserved areas, the Rotaract Club of Arellano University, in partnership with the Bureau of Quarantine, hosted the "Bantay Kalusugan for Every Juan" project on January 26, 2025. This initiative was specifically designed to deliver essential medical services and education to the indigenous communities of Tarlac, proving to be a cornerstone of community service and healthcare advocacy.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Salvador, the AU Rotaract Club School Adviser, who also serves as a staff member at the Bureau of Quarantine. Under his guidance, a team comprising 18 medical practitioners from the Bureau joined forces with Rotaract volunteers to execute this high-impact project. The day began with the team leaving Manila at 6:00 AM and concluded with their return at 9:00 PM, marking a full day dedicated to health service.
Throughout the day, the team provided 30 vital vaccinations and conducted health assessments for 100 beneficiaries. These services were complemented by educational sessions on various health topics including blood pressure management, oral hygiene, and the critical importance of regular vaccinations.
Among the volunteers were recent graduates from the Rotaract Club, including Enrico Almeron, RN, Maria Enojo, RN, Ann Girle Esquilla, Sandy Garcia, and Aelius Kin. These young professionals brought not only their skills but also a keen enthusiasm to learn hands-on practices that extend beyond the classroom setting.
Participating in these outreach programs exposes us to real-world challenges and reinforces our commitment to healthcare - Maria Enojo, RN.
Dr. Salvador highlighted the significance of the project, stating, "This initiative is a prime example of how strategic partnerships and committed volunteerism can lead to substantial community health improvements. It's also a valuable platform for our new graduates to apply their knowledge in practical settings, which is something they can't learn in school."
The project was underpinned by a signed Memorandum of Understanding with the Bureau of Quarantine, ensuring a structured and cooperative framework that maximized the outreach’s impact. This collaboration not only served the immediate health needs of the community but also set a precedent for future initiatives.
The Rotaract Club of Arellano University is a vibrant youth club sponsored by the Rotary Club of Makati Dasmariñas since 2005. As the Rotaract Club continues to build on its foundation of service above self, "Bantay Kalusugan for Every Juan" remains a testament to the power of collective effort and the profound impact of nurturing the next generation of healthcare leaders through practical engagement.
